Plot[]

Spirits of the ice forest

106,000,000 BC - Middle Cretaceous - Australia/Antarctica

The episode focuses upon a clan of Leaellynasaura as they struggle to survive in the south polar region over the course of a year. The small ornithopods are seen building nests, rearing their young, avoiding predators and defending their territory against a rival clan. During the long polar winter, they use their large eyes to forage in perpetual darkness. Other animals include migratory herds of Muttaburrasaurus, the giant amphibian Koolasuchus and predatory polar allosaurs, one of which ambushes and kills the matriarch (lead female) of the Leaellynasaura colony. Over the winter they almost freeze to death, but, using their special adaptations, they manage to survive to the coming of spring.
