Homo sapiens, is the species to which we all belong. Our species name, means, 'Wise Man'. We stand on average almost 2 metres tall. We are bidepal omnivores, and are highly intelligent with brain capacities of over 1,300 cc (cubic centimetres) By comparison, a Chimpanzee has a brain of less than 300 cc. We are from the Order of Primates, and we more specifically belong to the Hominins. Our oldest Hominin ancestor is the Homo erectus, of 1.5 Million Years Ago, however, our Primate ancestry goes back much further - to the ape like primate, Sahelanthropus tchadensis, over 7 Million Years Ago, and possibly even further still to 8 Million Years Ago in another less well understood species. Homo sapiens first evolved 200,000 Years Ago, in the arid lands of Africa, and these humans lived in great hardship for thousands of years, as the subspecies Homo sapiens idaltu.
Around 70,000 years ago, Homo sapiens moved into the Middle East and Asia - something Homo erectus had already done a million years and more earlier, and it is thought Homo sapiens replaced the dwindling population of Homo erectus - which only died out 50,000 years ago, after having been around for over a million years. Around 40,000 years ago, Homo Sapiens reached Europe, and came into contact with the more ancient Homo Neanderthalensis, which itself had thrived in Europe for 450,000 years. By 28,000 years ago, they had become extinct and the European Homo sapiens, often known as Cro-Magnon for the evidence found in the Cro-Magnon site in France, became the only Hominin left. They were the most advanced, and we are still the most advanced, animals that have ever lived on this Planet Earth. Although we have only been around for only 0.004% of all of time, we are still priviliged to know that we are the first and only species of all the Billions theat have ever lived, to be sentient, and to be intelligent to educate and to learn and to expand and keep of records of wisdom and knowledge. We have developed exponentially and by this 21st Century, we are the undisputed masters of the planet, possibly so powerful that our industry and ways of living are actually consumate enough to damage the environment. We also accuse ourselves of contributing to or directly causing the Megafaunal extinction at the end of the Last Ice Age. Humanity could potentially continue to thrive for millions of years, though in modern times, we are facing ever more terrifying challenges to cope with. One day, planet Earth will simply not be able to hold our kind of civilisation; there are 7 Billion of us already, and 9 Billion forecast for 2050 alone.
