Xiphactinus was a large, fast predatory fish that lived in the late Cretaceous Period. It was about 6 metres long and fed on Hesperornis and the occasional, unlucky low-flying Pterosaur.
It would have been in a middling role in the marine food chain; terrifying in its own right, but actually a potential dinner for the giant Mosasaurs and the very large sharks even (though even the large sharks were eaten by giant Mosasaurs)
Size[]
Xiphactinus averages at about 4 metres. But the biggest are 6 metres.
Sea Monsters: A Walking with Dinosaurs Trilogy[]
Xiphactinus appeared several times in the most dangerous sea of all time, in the last episode of "Sea Monsters".
Triva[]
- Xiphactinus is seen in the intro of Sea Monsters.
